The Hole in Our Gospel

The Hole in Our Gospel

“Let my heart be broken by the things that break the heart of God”

—Bob Pierce, World Vision

This is a prayer that Bob Pierce, founder of World Vision, once prayed. Who prays for their heart to be broken? Most personal prayers ask God to fix problems and guide people away from pain, not embrace it. But in reality, God’s heart is broken every day by the injustices that He sees around the world.

Here’s a few examples of what breaks God’s heart:

  • AIDS has left 15 million children behind as orphans in Africa.
  • Life expectancy for a person born in the United States is 78. In sub-Saharan Africa it is 47.
  • A child dies every 5 seconds from hunger-related causes.
  • 40% of the world’s population makes less than $2 a day.

The need in the world has never been greater and it is time for us to DO SOMETHING!

Join us this fall for a six-week preaching, Small Group and serving series focused on the book “The Hole in Our Gospel” by Richard Stearns, CEO of World Vision. This series will help us explore these issues and identify what God is calling us to do to repair the hole in His heart.
