"John, The Gospel of Light and Life" by Adam Hamilton
To Martin Luther, Matthew, Mark, and Luke (Synoptic Gospels) were inferior gospels because "they record many of Christ's works but few of his words". John was the gospel that was the one authority for Christian life and the one message he wished to convey. (Luther The Reformer)
In the Synoptic Gospels, Jesus describes the kingdom of God and the ethical imperatives demanded in the Kingdom. In John, the focus is not on the kingdom of God but on Jesus himself as the one who reveals God.
In the Synoptic Gospels Jesus calls people to follow Him. In John, Jesus calls people to believe in Him and to abide in Him. (John, The Gospel of Light and Life)
