Mercy: A compassion or forbearance shown to another, even when they don’t deserve it.

Some Facts about Forgiveness

  1. It’s hard to keep forgiving.
    1. Forgiving others is a way of faith and life.
  2. When we feel or experience our own forgiveness, we find it much easier to forgive.
    1. When we are humbled by our own forgiveness, we are much more likely to forgive others.
  3. Sometimes we don’t feel forgiven and it impacts our attitudes and behaviors.
    1. We can become highly judgmental, negative and critical.
    2. We are probably dealing with unresolved guilt.
    3. Hurting people hurt people.
  4. When we hold on to our hurt it robs us of joy.
    1. When we don’t forgive it does more harm to us than the person who has wronged us.
  5. You can’t control when people hurt you.
    1. You can only control how long you will hold onto the hurt.
  6. Forgiveness and trust are two different things.
    1. Forgiveness lets go of the debt owed.
    2. Trust is earned.
