Sermon Notes

Jesus was abandoned by his followers. He also felt abandoned by God.

  • Ever felt like God has abandoned you? I would guess most of us would say yes. It’s not that we really believe it, but we ask those “why” questions and get no answers. We wonder, “where are you God?”

When these times come, and they come to everyone,  remember these 3 things to hold onto:

  1. Hold onto what you know is true about God. Suffering has a way of polluting our thoughts about God.  It skews the way we think about God unless we have taken the time and energy to grow firm in our understanding of God.
  2. Hold onto your faith. Knowing your faith is so important as you walk through the hard times. Our faith is what gives us hope, especially in the times of trial and suffering. It is important to building a strong faith foundation when life is going well, so that it is there when you need it.
  3. Hold onto the knowledge that Jesus suffered and knows what we are going through. Let your feelings be made known to him, he knows what it is like. Jesus will walk with you through your suffering and through the feelings of abandonment, grief and pain.
