Community Missions at Southwood equips and empowers people to be the Body of Christ in the world by ministering to the needs of people in our community. We focus on three main areas:
Unsure of where God is calling you to use your spiritual gifts and abilities?
Want a schedule of our Mission Work?
Wednesday Lenten Meals will be served from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and will feature meals from our hunger ministries. All profits will be donated to these partners: Backpack Program, Food Distribution, Gathering Place, Matt Talbot, and Meals on Wheels.
City Impact seeks to minister God's love to Lincoln's urban neighborhoods. They focus on transforming families and neighborhoods from the inside out by equipping people with the good news of God’s love. Volunteer-driven programs involve mentoring relationship with children and youth. Here is how you can become involved:
Our volunteers help staff the clinic on the 3rd Tuesday and Thursday of each month at Clinic With A Heart at 1701 S 17th Street. No medical background is required to be a part of the clinic—just a love for people and a heart for serving. Non-medical volunteers help with greeting, registration, traffic flow, childcare and hospitality.
Help stop hunger in our community! You can serve by donating food, delivering donations from Southwood to the Food Pantry, stocking shelves or packing boxes at the Pantry, or delivering boxes from the Pantry to Southwood when we receive a request for food. Items needed for February are juice, pasta, canned meat, cereal, Hamburger Helper, Jell-O and puding. Need more details on how you can serve?
An hour a week can change a life. TeamMates mentors spend one-on-one time with an elementary, middle or high school youth—just one hour a week during the course of a school year. Youth who are mentored receive support and guidance from a caring adult and show measurable improvement in academic achievement, attendance and disicpline referrals. Mentored youth are more likely to stay in school and graduate and show improvement in interpersonal relationships. Find out what a difference an hour can make.
The Gathering Place (1448 E Street) serves a free evening meal to needy people each weekday evening. A team from Southwood serves the evening meal on the 2nd Monday and 3rd Thursday of each month.
Provide support and companionship to the elderly in the last stages of their lives at Tabitha Healthcare Services. Volunteers are needed to spend one hour a week with a Grandfriend to build relationships, play games, help with fun activities, and lead Bible studies. Volunteers are needed seven days a week during the day, evenings or weekends.
Brighten someone's day with your kindness! Deliver meals provided by Tabitha to members of our community who cannot cook for themselves.
