Mentoring

TeamMates

An hour a week can change a life. TeamMates mentors spend one-on-one time with an elementary, middle or high school youth -- just one hour a week during the course of a school year. Youth who are mentored receive support and guidance from a caring adult and show measurable improvement in academic achievement, attendance and disicpline referrals. Mentored youth are more likely to stay in school and graduate and show improvement in interpersonal relationships. Find out what a difference an hour can make.

City Impact

City Impact seeks to minister God's love to Lincoln's urban neighborhood. They focus on transforming families and neighborhoods from the inside out by equipping people with the good news of God’s love. Volunteer-driven programs involve mentoring relationship with children and youth. Here is how you can become involved:

  • Impact Reading Center, now in Elliott Elementary School. Mentors are needed for traditional after-school tutoring and daytime opportunities to help children with computer-based reading programs in the classroom. Tutor for one 9-week session for 45 minutes per week.
  • Bible Club on Tuesday evenings helps children and youth grown in their faith. Volunteers are needed to lead a bible club classroom or assist in the classroom. You can also offer your assistance in snack preparation, bank and store, transportation, set-up and/or clean-up. Ever Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 7:30pm. This may be a great opportunity for small groups!
  • Impact Leadership Academy for teens focuses on servant leadership development by celebrating and cultivating their God-given talents. Youth are empowered with real-world leadership decision-making to live out their faith and make a positive impact in their community. This is a year round mentoring opportunity on Sunday evenings.

Clinic With A Heart

Clinic With A Heart is a free medical clinic at 3910 N. 27th Street staffed entirely by volunteers. Southwood partners with CWAH by staffing the clinic on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. No medical background is required to be a part of the clinic -- just a love for people and a heart for serving. Non-medical volunteers help with greeting, registration, traffic flow, childcare, and hospitality. Contact Heidi Longe to learn more.
