Southwood Lutheran Youth Group (SWLYG) exists to provide meaningful community, service, and faith formation for all high school students.

Southwood Lutheran Youth Group

So, what does high school ministry look like?

  • The SWLYG (Southwood Lutheran Youth Group) gathers bi-weekly on Sunday nights from 6:30-8PM. This community exists to provide opportunities to deepen faith, develop meaningful relationships, and serve others. We often gather by having dinner together, engaging in spiritual practices. having student- led small groups and playing large group games. No week is the same, but it always feels comfortable and familiar.
  • Life and Lattes gathers on Tuesdays from 2:30–4PM at coffee shops around town on the weeks we do not meet for SWLYG. This non-agenda-driven time is open to anyone to drop by for conversation and connection.

Not just this, but summer mission trips, retreats, mentorship opportunities, and leadership development help make up our ministry. In all of it a community forms that brings our youth to a deepening level of love for God and others.

Peer Ministry

Our Peer Ministers meet bi-weekly on Sunday mornings from 11AM–12PM in the Group Room.

SWLYG strives to be a loving and inclusive community to all. We invite students to apply to our Peer Ministry leadership team. Peer Ministry is a style of leadership that is focused on caring, welcoming, and affirming every neighbor. We, as Christians, believe that we are all called to a vocation of loving others.

Our hopes:

  • Continually create a more student-led programming
  • Develop leaders for the greater world
  • Equip students to grow individually and as leaders

How do we make this happen?

Peer Ministry is more than a bi-weekly meeting! It's learning relational faith skills with face-to-face practice, being mentored in and modeling those skills, living in an intentional culture of people caring, and welcoming and affirming others every day, everywhere and in every relationship.
