Money and the Good Life

Money and the Good Life

Passage: 1 Timothy 6:7-19

Speaker: Pastor Greg Olson

Series: The Good Life

Category: Money, Stewardship

Sermon Notes

Money, like pleasure, is not a bad thing. But money isn’t the source of the Good Life.

The Purpose of Money

  1. Meet our basic needs first
  2. Honor God and our own futures
  3. Have money set aside for emergencies
  4. Set goals and fund them
  5. Determine discretionary spending last

When money becomes our driver in life we have gotten off track to the Good Life.

Purpose in life has to come first.

The purpose of money is to fuel our purpose.

  • No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. Matthew 6:24 (NLT)
  • But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:9–10 (NLT)

The Good Life is experienced when we live a giving life!

God has given us our time, talent, relationships and resources. How will we use them? What will we do with what we have been given? This is the central question all Christians must ask.
